Ukraine's "Civilizational Choice" Now Entrenched in Constitution

In early February 2019, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted several decisions to amend the Constitution of Ukraine.

I. Thus, on February 5, 2019, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine issued a Conclusion in the case on the constitutional petitions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the compliance of the draft law amending the Article 133 of the Constitution of Ukraine (regarding the renaming of the Kirovohrad oblast) (Reg. No. 8380) to the requirements of Articles 157 and 158 of the Constitution Of Ukraine.

With this Conclusion, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine has recognized the bill amending the Article 133 of the Constitution of Ukraine (regarding the renaming of the Kirovohrad oblast) (hereinafter - the Draft Law), which complies with the requirements of Articles 157 and 158 of the Constitution of Ukraine.

Thus, at the current tenth session, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine may consider the question of renaming the Kirovohrad oblast to Kropyvnitska oblast and make a decision (226 - "yes") on the preliminary approval of this bill (in the first reading).
